The use of a back massager can be a very good way to treat chronic back
pain or relieve tired, sore muscles. You shouldn't be afraid to use a
massager if you use it properly. It is a very safe device if you use it
properly.  However, if not used properly, a back massager can be a
cause of pain or injury. In this article be will discuss some incorrect
uses of back massagers and how misuse can lead to injury.

1. Using The Massager Too Hard.
Read
this carefully as this is the most common way to misuse a back
massager. Using too much pressure with your massage can do damage on
your muscle tissue. You know that, however, what is once too hard is
too weak in other situations. Before you start, the muscles are not
warmed up and less elastic and more prone to injuries. This is why you
should start very slow. As the time goes you gradually increase the
speed on your massager. After like ten minutes your body is ready for
higher speed settings.

When is too hard or to much? If you feel
pain, then you should lower the pressure setting. That's the measure.
You should never ever go with any pain.
Now, the very important
part: When you're done don't stop at the higher speed settings. Reverse
the warming up process. Go gradually to the lower speed settings. By
doing this you're going to feel the effects of the massager longer.
This also prevents you from getting spasms.

You should keep in
mind that a massager can make sore or injured muscles worse. Never use
a back massager too hard, equals, when you feel the pain.

2. Having the Heat Setting Too High
One
of the best functions of handheld and chair massagers is their ability
to infuse heat into the massage. Heat helps to further relax and
relieve the muscles. However, if used to excess, it can lead to injury
and skin burns. To avoid this, be sure to never set the heat on its’
highest setting and turn it down if you begin to feel uncomfortable.

3. Using Back Massagers on the Wrong Body Parts
Back
massagers are made to be used on your back. Because the back muscles
are large and some of the strongest muscles in your back, they can
handle more pressure. Using a back massager on your stomach, arms and
other places that it is not designed for, can cause pain and or injury.

4. Using A Damaged Massager
If
your massager is damaged in anyway, then cease using it, get it
repaired or throw it out. Using a damaged massager can lead to burns,
scratches or even electrocution if wiring is exposed.

5. If You Have a Serious Medical Injury
An
at-home back massager is used mostly for comfort, relaxation and to
treat common, everyday aches and pain. It should never be used to
attempt to treat a serious documented or assumed injury. Only a medical
doctor can treat real back injuries. Using a back massager on a hurt
back can exacerbate the problem. During the pregnancy some women really
want a massage treatment as their back hurt more. However, even in the
first trimester a back massager might not be a good idea. You should
consult your doctor about you massager. It would be the best to get a
massage treatment by professional. Look for pre-natal massager
treatment.

Do not be afraid of them. Back massagers
are fantastic for relaxing the muscles after a long hard, day of work.
If your muscles are sore due to everyday use, a hand held or chair
massager is great way to relieve them. However, you must be sure to use
them properly. Never turn the heat setting or pressure too high or you
might risk injury. Also, never use a damaged massager. Back massagers
should be used only on your back, use it on a body part that it is not
intended for and you could end up hurting yourself. Be sure to never
use a back massager on your back if you are seriously injured. Instead,
consult a physician and get medical help if you need it.
